End-Of-Life Vehicles (ELV)
End-of-Life Vehicles (ELV) is a directive released in the year 2000 by European Union to reduce the hazardous substance usage and increase the recyclability of the materials used in the automobiles. It is applicable for the materials used in the vehicles (category M1 and N1) put on the market after 1 July 2003 in EU.
KPIT is capable of supporting & managing following databases for different OEM and Tier-1s

International Material Data System (IMDS)
It is an internet based automotive material data system to facilitate environment friendly disposal of used cars. It is a joint development of Audi, BMW, Daimler, Ford, Opel, Porsche, VW and Volvo.
KPIT helps OEMs and Tier1s to integrate European End-of-Life Vehicles (ELV) directive with their Product Part Approval Process (PPAP) and New Product Introduction (NPI)
- New vehicles must be 85% reusable or recyclable (by mass) and 95% recoverable or recyclable, effective December 15, 2008, to receive type-approval in the European Union (needed before vehicles can be manufactured, imported or registered).
- Reusability of component parts, recyclability and recoverability of materials constitute a substantial part of the community strategy for waste management
