Picture a rocket, jetting off into space. At first it needs a huge amount of power and energy, but once it passes the point of gravitational pull it’s on its own. The hardest part is over.

Many of the challenges we face can seem just as complex as launching a satellite. But it’s all about perspective. Obstacles, after all, are a part of life for everyone – they are unavoidable, and they are constant.

What are the core values you fall back on when the going gets tough?

There’s a choice in every situation. You can be negative, afraid, and give in to cynicism, or you can try the alternative, and apply a positive mindset. It’s a simple choice, but it will significantly affect what you can do to face the challenge.

I realize that on paper (or, more accurately, screen) this sounds great, and that it’s so much harder in action. However, the fact remains that some do manage to take even the most difficult odds in their stride.

Look at it this way - Event + Response = Outcome. Events and situations on their own don’t mean much, and their significance is totally dependent on the choices made by us.

Real strength is measured in the way we handle hard situations. When everything is favorable, results can be achieved by almost anybody. There’s nothing particularly special about them. What makes one stand out is an ability to achieve when there’s a barrier or two to get around.

Tough times don’t last, but tough people do. The moment you prove yourself through dedication, commitment, and perseverance there’s no power in the world – not even a gravitational pull - that can hold you back.

We all have our own individual principles. These are the standards that matter to us and give us strength. You might say that having a positive perspective is difficult, but remember it’s your values that will drive you forward. Consider them, and use them.
