Supply Chain Management (SCM) is the management of materials, information, and finances as a product moves from supplier to manufacturer to wholesaler to retailer to consumer. This article establishes the need for efficient SCM. It introduces the reader to SCM, its design considerations, metrics and benefits. It presents an overview of a typical SCM application configuration. The concept of e-sourcing is introduced. The article then compares an efficient supply chain with an adaptive one. Finally the trends in the SCM field are examined.
